On Monday, August 18th Governor Gary Herbert declared the week of September 6th - 13th, State Eat Local Week! See the full declaration below!

 

A Declaration from the State of Utah

WHEREAS Eat Local Week educates the community about resources for eating locally produced foods through a series of activities and workshops; and

WHEREAS Eat Local Week celebrates the regional harvests, promotes agriculture and brings people together as a community over the food they eat; and

WHEREAS Eat Local Week increases awareness about food production, transportation and access to healthy food for all; and

WHEREAS Eat Local Week strives to make locally-produced foods available to residents at all socioeconomic levels; and

WHEREAS Eat Local Week supports the Governors Agenda of Economic Development, Job Creation, Healthy Living, Neighborhood Quality of Life and Sustainability,

NOW THEREFORE, I, Gary R Herbert, Governor for the State of Utah, do hereby proclaim the week of September 6-13, State Eat Local Week to further the expansion and awareness of locally grown foods and the contributions of farmers, ranchers and food producers to the daily quality of life and health of the citizens of Utah. I encourage all people of Utah to support the bountiful production of our states food producers and to seek out those local products within a 250 mile radius for at least one week.
