I'm looking at my favorite foods and noticing their origins so that I can adjust my buying habits year-round to be more locally oriented. I plan to spend all my food budget for this week at the downtown farmer's market tomorrow--a fun excuse to try produce and other foods that I'd passed over before because they were unfamiliar or a bit more expensive than at the grocery store. The new foods that I really like I'll keep in my diet--we middle class Americans spend such a small fraction of our income on food compared to elsewhere in the world, we should be open to paying a bit more to get food that is fresher, more local, and more environmentally responsible. And it will be fun to try new recipes chosen to highlight whatever is in season and available locally, and share my discoveries with my friends online. |

I eat a lot of burritos. I usually have two for breakfast, then one more either for lunch or dinner. Once I had eleven burritos in two days, which I am quite proud of. I put this fact in the "About Me" section of an online dating profile but no one messaged me to say how impressed they were so I replaced it with some lie about how much I love camping. I make the burritos myself usually, although sometimes I buy them from Albertos. During Eat Local Week I pledge to only eat burritos that are filled with local ingredients. I think that the hardest part of this challenge is going without Sriracha hot chili sauce on the breakfast burritos. I won't be able to use rice in the burritos but that is okay because I get really bummed out when I take a bite of a burrito and get only rice. Here are some things I will be putting into the burritos: beans, pork, ground beef, salsa, eggs, potatoes, salsa, cabbage, cheese, bacon, peppers, squash, onions. I don't really like lettuce in my burritos because it gets wilted and fe |
